Triage Info
Since we began business in 1977, we have offered phone access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year including holidays, for our patients to discuss medical concerns with our providers or their nurses. This phone screening is called “Medical Triage.”
During office hours this service is rendered by a Triage Nurse (an RN-registered nurse) or by one of our MAs (medical assistant). After hours this care is rendered by either a doctor or a nurse practitioner from our clinic. This TRIAGE phone access is for MEDICAL CONDITIONS, and is NOT to be used for pharmacy refills. Pharmacy requests should be handled through your personal pharmacy, who will contact us for approval or instructions. At this time this phone access to TRIAGE continues to be free for our established patients.
To make this service more effective for the patients and more efficient for our providers we have a few guidelines for the patients to follow when they call us for TRIAGE.
- The name and age of the patient and the patient’s provider’s name.
- A short explanation of the medical situation.
- Appropriate medical measurements: temperature if ill, blood pressure and pulse rate if having cardiovascular problems, last menstrual period if having female problems, length and location of a cut or bruise as well as date of last tetanus shot if a wound is the medical concern.
- The name and doses of ALL regular medications.
- The name and phone number of your pharmacy and call them to be sure they are open at the time of your call to us. Evening and weekend hours are variable with the pharmacies. Have a backup pharmacy number available if it is near closing time when you call us.
For those of our patients who prefer E-mail communication with our providers for TRIAGE services, we have begun a new service called “E-Consultations”. This service is available only during office hours, and is NOT appropriate for medical EMERGENCIES. Please refer to “E-consult (Link2MyDoc)” in the Quick Links menu at the upper left of the web page for a further explanation of this service.
